How can I love when I'm afraid?

Description

I'm gradually learning how to handle Photoshop. Someday . . . well, an artist CAN dream, right? I really want to master it someday . . .
Note: I probably posted this already, but I had not colored it before, as it is colored now.

"Heart beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave?
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone?
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow"
A Thousand Years by Christina Perri

So do you remember those characters I discussed here? [link]

I was being all fluffy-brained and concluded that my antagonist could not go without at least one scene that satisfactorily included something along the lines of a "deeper romance" with Milly, my MC. I have not even started writing this story really, but I have done some scene sketches. Below is an excerpt of their gothic-y interactions:

"I'm very sorry about your home, Miss Clarence," said the captain, giving his cap a polite tug.
Milly, who had never shown rage outwardly before, now made no pretense of it. She glared at him, her stare burning. But her mouth had become so dry that she could not speak.
Pike seemed to consider her expression a moment, before saying in a soft tone, "It's a pity, your house burning."
"You--" Millicent began, a violent name on the tip of her tongue.
But Pike cut her off with a silken laugh, those brilliant eyes of his flickering with a dangerous sort of amusement. "Sweet girl, I'm afraid you do not understand the circumstances. You do not understand them in the least. Would you let me enlighten you?"
"I'm no fool!" Millicent gasped, desperate to bring one of her shaking hands across that fair cheek of his and raise the red in it.
"I never said that--I could not believe it of you! But you are rather foolish, if I must admit . . ."
"Admit the cruelty of your act! Which you never shall, for you are a boorish, wretched man! I shan't listen to you another moment--"
"Here, now! Ho! What's this, fiery rebel?" said Pike softly, "Listen to me now, or I'll take you be the arm and horsewhip you. I've been wanting to do that for some time now."

Millicent doesn't look exactly averse to his touch in my deviant submission ^^
I probably won't include this in my book, but I thought I'd share this fluff with you.
